As a Professional Coach I know I can assess your game and put you on the the right path towards improvement, the amount of practice needed outside of your golf lessons to make coaching effective is a question I’m asked all the time and varies depending on your goals, skill level, and the focus of your lessons. However, here are some general guidelines:
Regular Practice
To see consistent improvement, try to practice at least 2-3 times a week outside of lessons. Even short practice sessions of 30-60 minutes focusing on specific skills can be highly beneficial.
Focused Practice
Don’t just hit balls aimlessly. Focus your practice on areas we identifies as needing work — such as short game, putting, or driving. Quality practice is more important than quantity.
Balance Practice and Play
Incorporate on-course play to apply what you’ve learned in real situations. Playing regularly (once a week or more) helps integrate your lessons into actual rounds.
Pre-Practice Preparation
Before practicing, know what drills or skills you want to work on. Detailed practice plans, often provided by your coach, help you use your time efficiently.
Use Feedback
Use video analysis, launch monitors, or feedback from your coach to track progress during practice.
Adapting to Improvement
As you improve, practice time might increase or shift focus to other areas. Your coach can help adjust your practice plan accordingly.
“Please remember that as your coach, I will guide you onto the right path for improvement by providing the correct drills and practicing systems to help you correct faults or learn new techniques, but it is ultimately you who will learn and make the necessary changes.”
